Tesla Canada appears to be preparing to sell US-built Model 3s again

Oct 27, 2026 · Original Electrek

Tesla Canada's Model 3 Premium RWD listing now shows 584 km range and a 5.2 s 0-100 km/h time, up from 463 km and 6.2 s — matching the Fremont-built car, though Tesla has not announced anything.

Per Electrek, Tesla Canada updated its website's Model 3 Premium RWD to 584 km of range, 5.2 s from 0 to 100 km/h and a 1,745 kg curb weight, versus 463 km and 6.2 s before. The new figures match the Fremont-built Long Range RWD sold in Canada in October 2024, not the Shanghai-built car.

The backdrop is an import quota. The C$39,490 Shanghai-built Model 3 has been unorderable in Canada since early October, and Tesla says orders resume if more quota is issued, expected in March 2027. The only orderable Model 3 now is the Performance at C$74,990.

Tesla has not announced a return of US-built cars and its configurator is unchanged. A 25% Canadian counter-tariff on US-made vehicles, in place since April 2025, still applies; a Fremont-built Premium RWD could cost roughly C$65,000 to C$67,000, above the C$50,000 cap of Canada's C$5,000 EV program. Electrek sees it as a likely short-term stopgap and a tough sell at that price.
