Tesla's China-made EV sales hit 2026 high, up 5% in September
Tesla's Shanghai-built EV sales rose 5% year-over-year to 95,366 units in September, the highest monthly total of 2026 and the 11th straight month of growth — even as Tesla's global Q3 deliveries fell 2.1% year-over-year.
Exports jumped 58% to 30,529 units while domestic sales fell 9.4% to 64,837, per CPCA data cited by Reuters, which tied the export strength to rising new-car registrations across several European markets.
The growth rate accelerated from August's 3.6% pace. Amid intensifying competition, Tesla is offering final-payment discounts — 7,000 yuan on select Model Y trims and 5,000 yuan across all Model 3 trims — through the end of October.
For the full third quarter, China-built sales rose about 13.7% year-over-year, while Tesla's global deliveries dropped 2.1% against a record Q3 in 2025 — underscoring how much China is now propping up overall volume.
